Bible in slavon
Silver, partly gold-plated, cameo, coral, coloured glass and pearls, western Europe, 19th century.
The text contains the 4 Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles, St John’s Apocalypse and an exceptional calendar of the Saints. Slavon, which is written in the Glagolitic alphabet, is the most ancient Slav language. It is sometimes used as a liturgical language by the orthodox church.
