Writing table

Veneer of apple wood, pear wood tinted green, amaranth, violet wood and satinwood on oak and pine, France, Paris, Jean-Baptiste Tuart, ca. 1745.

This little table has a drawer on the side and two at the front. This type of furniture was used by ladies in salons. The screen, which had been missing, was recreated during the table’s restoration in 2015. It enabled one to write away from indiscreet gazes. The table bears the stamp of the Parisian cabinetmaker Jean-Baptiste Tuart, who acceded to Master status in 1741.
